Pocket knives for everyday use have all but disappeared. The Japanese perfected the knife, but when knives were no longer needed as weapons, they invented the perfect multi-purpose knife: the snap-off blade that is always perfectly sharp. ‘The Travelling Knife Salesman’ offers bespoke versions of snap-off blades normally used in the construction and creative sectors, but above all offers a philosophical interpretation of a world in which ordinary people still have the freedom to shape the environment around us. The mobile workshop extends this into a space where the knives can be produced and personalised, thereby offering people the first step towards taking control of the world around them into their own hands.
