Canal House

A delicate series of interventions of a state monument on the canals of Amsterdam, providing two bedrooms separated by a bathroom, a kitchen/dining room, and a large living room and office in a complimentary and respectful way.

The project revolves around its windows – a house at the rear faces onto a magnificent garden with a magnolia tree that has it’s own state listing, connects the ground floor and basement levels, separated by a small internal courtyard, leading back to the front of the building with views over the canal.

The owner, a collector of historic architectural elements, wanted to turn the exterior spaces into collection displays and orient the internal spaces around the views to the outside and the statues and artworks displayed there.
