Garden city house
The renovation of this terraced house in Amsterdam required strict budgetary and construction management, requiring significant changes to create efficient space for the client’s growing family.
The 1936 house originally had only a ground and first floor, but a new staircase and dormer window now accommodate the attic as a master bedroom and office. The ground floor originally housed the house’s only toilet and shower, adjacent to the kitchen. These were relocated to the first floor in a compact bathroom. The newly reclaimed ground floor was then fitted with a custom-made kitchen that extends under the existing staircase.
The house was stripped back to its original structure, removing layers of unattractive additions and refurbishing it to the highest standards of insulation, plumbing, and electrical installation, along with underfloor heating on all floors.
